Reflections on High Tech High

Here is the first reflection from one of the LSU students who went to High Tech High with us. More reflections will come.

Gyu-Mi (Karen) Park:

"This school has many advantages such as interdisciplinary curriculums, project-based learning, multiple intelligences, small size classes, creative enviroSnment which promotes students' motivation for learning, glass all over the wall, and decoration with students' arts or projects. However, this school seems not to emphasize physical components and there are unclear evaluative tools for assessment. Interesting things are the school more focuses on the life of students rather than the standards and 100% students are accepted in college. In addition, I cannot forget that every student was really concentrating on their own project or art, which cannot happen to the traditional classes. All classes were really dynamic, innovative!"

Michael Weismeyer:

"High Tech High was one of the most exciting and innovative schools I have ever observed.  While the school overall was geared toward technology being integrated throughout the curriculum, High Tech High also integrated other disciplines.  Science and mathematics, history and English were integrated as well helping students see the real-life connections that occur among the various subjects traditionally taught in neat boxes in most schools.  High Tech High students were engaged in their study and appeared interested in exploring new aspects of learning.  It is encouraging to see that teachers, administrators, and parents are willing to take a chance on letting students participate in such an endeavor."
