To develop awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences in values, assumptions, and communication styles
To develop new social and professional skills to deal effectively with cultural differences
To maximize benefits and reduce stress from cross-cultural experiences in daily encounters
To weave the element of diversity into the fabric of education
To prepare/equip students to respond to the growing demands of the global economy
To gain basic knowledge and strategies required to work more effectively in classrooms that are multicultural and multilingual
To recognize and identify the issues affecting students who are linguistically diverse
To develop a basic understanding of the acculturation process
To gain knowledge on second language acquisition theories and processes
To examine basic issues in literacy instruction
To develop a variety of approaches and strategies for language and literacy instruction
To employ assessment practices considering cultural and linguistic diversity.
